Inspirational Indiyogi, Rachel Torres

Indigo Yoga’s “Indiyogi in the Spotlight”
Meet the beautiful, bright and bubbly Rachel Torres, our inspirational Indiyogi of the month! Rachel is an avid podcast and public radio listener and animal lover, and when she’s not doing yoga you can find her out on a hike, spending time with local friends (and chatting with her long distance buddies), indulging at yummy vegan/vegetarian restaurants around NJ and coaching first generation college students.
Rachel first began her yoga practice about 9 years ago. She found yoga through dance because she used yoga as a way to gain flexibility while building strength. When she had injured herself, she used yoga as a gentle way to maintain those things while recovering. “My focus/mantra in yoga has been love and peace. Over the past year I have experienced a lot of ups and downs so I seek to love myself and others and find peace and calm in my life.” Rachel explains that yoga has helped her even off the yoga mat. “A few years ago I was easily overwhelmed by pretty much anything outside of my friends, family and home. Now when I feel overwhelmed I try to channel the peace I experience on my mat in the ‘outside world.’ I truly believe yoga is how I have managed to say positive throughout this past year.”
This Fall, Rachel decided to take the next step on her yoga journey and began her yoga teacher training at Indigo Yoga. “I find so much fulfillment out of doing yoga, so I want to become a teacher to bring that to others. I thought about my mom because I think she could get so much out of a yoga practice. Once I complete the training I want to jump right into teaching and sharing what I’ve learned with others.” Rachel has a way of brightening up the room when she comes in to the studio, and we know that Rachel will be able inspire her future yoga students. People who are working towards making an impact in the world, no matter how big or small inspire Rachel to continue finding her place in the world and work toward making her impact. “I am the youngest of four kids and I think that’s what makes me have such a loud and bubbly personality. It makes my heart super happy to know that I can bring even an ounce of happiness into other people’s lives.”
Fun fact: Rachel says, “I decided to move to Caldwell because the reviews for Indigo were so great and I was looking to live near a great studio and a park. Yoga is my refuge. I use it when I need strength and energy or calm and relaxation. I also believe you attract the energy you put out into the world; and I have found that great studios draw in great people, which is exactly what I wanted as Midwest transplant.” Rachel has certainly become a part of that community she was looking for… and we truly believe that personalities like hers are what make our community as awesome as it is!
Now that you know a little more about Rachel… make sure to say “Hi!” next time you see her at Indigo!
